From III. The Suicide of Thought, Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesteron

It is only with one aspect of humility that we are here concerned. Humility was largely meant as a restraint upon the arrogance and infinity of the appetite of man. He was always outstripping his mercies with his own newly invented needs. His very power of enjoyment destroyed half his joys. By asking for pleasure, he lost the chief pleasure; for the chief pleasure is surprise. Hence it became evident that if a man would make his world large, he must be always making himself small. Even the haughty visions, the tall cities, and the toppling pinnacles are the creations of humility. Giants that tread down forests like grass are the creations of humility. Towers that vanish upwards above the loneliest star are the creations of humility. For towers are not tall unless we look up at them; and giants are not giants unless they are larger than we. All this gigantesque imagination, which is, perhaps, the mightiest of the pleasures of man, is at bottom entirely humble. It is impossible without humility to enjoy anything - even pride.

From II. The Maniac, Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesteron

The general fact is simple. Poetry is sane because it floats easily in an infinite sea; reason seeks to cross the infinite sea, and so make it finite. The result is mental exhaustion, like the physical exhaustion of Mr. Holbein. To accept everything is an exercise, to understand everything a strain. The poet only desires exaltation and expansion, a world to stretch himself in. The poet only asks to get his head into the heavens. It is the logician who seeks to get the heavens into his head. And it is his head that splits.

It’s only a matter of time before media becomes entirely media-less. Soon we will look back at the plastic shiny disc with the same nostalgic amusement we get from cassette tapes. The open button on a DVD player will seem as silly then as the rewind button on a VHS player does today. The internet will deliver our media where ever and how ever we want it.

Eventually bandwidth and wireless technology will advance to the point where traditional downloads become obsolete. There will be no need to have giant hard drives filled with copies of songs and TV shows. That kind of redundancy isn’t necessary when you have access to a central repository of media which can be enjoyed instantaneously.

Until technology catches up with our imaginations, I’ll be selling CDs for those who like to hold their music. They are being manufactured as I write! Stay tuned and get your copy shortly.

Here is a great, free e-booket from Sovereign Grace Ministries on ministry leadership and calling: download pdf

The author, Dave Harvey, does a thorough job explaining how one goes about answering the question “Am I called?”

Is the answer to be found in some irrefutable Damascus Road experience? Will Bible college or seminary settle the matter? Is getting into ministry like applying for a job, matching qualifications with the right opportunity? Or does it “just happen,” with everything falling into place like a giant spiritual slot machine?

Harvey clears things up with some practical wisdom on the topic. I recommend it to anyone who has pondered the question themselves.

Will abide underneath the shadow of the Almighty
And I will say of the Lord

He is my refuge and
He is my fortress, my God
In him I will trust
His salvation I will see
Surely he will cover me

Becuase you have made the Lord, even the Most High, your dwelling place
He will give his angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways
And I will say of the Lord:

CHORUS

Under his wings there is refuge inside
His salvation I’ll see
I will be satisfied
His truth is a shield
I will not be afraid
He will set me on high because I’ve known his name
Under his wings there is refuge inside
